one hour performance
materials: thread, fishing reels, metal hooks
performed: August 27th, 2014, Third Space, Helsinki, FI
collaboration #14 – helsinki focuses on the sounds and movements, produced by tasked-based actions.
The two artists stand in the center of a room, with a single fluorescent light on the floor between them. They pull threads and strings from the ceiling to the floor; creating black piles, gradually dimming the light. Each thread or string leads to either one of two spools, or one of two fishing reels, attached to different elements throughout the room.
The pulling of the thread triggers the movement of the spools and fishing reels, creating sounds throughout the space. Each sound is influenced by the acoustic qualities of the particular placement of each object in the room. The score is a time-based improvisation, with a duration of 1 hour.
