Co- LAB Serde

An artist laboratory and performance series, initiated and organized
by Jasmin Schaitl and William “Bilwa” Costa

(3) Labs and (1) Performance Series during the month of May, 2015
at Interdisciplinary Art Group Serde, Aizpute, Latvia

Co- (lab) / Serde: collaboration and collectivity consisted of (3) site-relative labs, of various performing and visual artists of various disciplines, levels, and countries, from university to professional. Working solo, in small groups, and as an entire group, we developed scores and performance material addressing the topics of collaboration and co-elaboration, or simultaneity.

During the lab, we focused on the specific physical characteristics of the Serde spaces, and other indoor and outdoor spaces in Aizpute; and how we, individually and as a group, relate and respond to them. We used this research to create graphic scores for task-based movements, sound, and visual performances. Using techniques of reduction and refinement, we composed scores that were based on all of the material generated during the labs.

In addition to performances at the end of each lab, the project culminated in a series of solo, duo, and group performances by participants, of all labs, on Fri. May 22, and Sat. May 23.
